Summer Opportunity

WHAT:  Summer Austin Pre-Freshmen Engineering Program (AusPrEP) at Huston Tillotson University
FOR:  Middle school students who are currently in grades sixth, seventh, or eighth are encouraged to apply for PREP year one.  Students currently in the fifth grade are encouraged to apply for the Pre-Algebra Institute. 
CRITERIA:  Interviews may be required to determine admittance to the program; Successful candidates will be notified of acceptance in May; Required Pre-Testing dates – May 1st and May 22nd; PARENT ORIENTATION is required for parents and participants and is scheduled for May 20, 2010 at 6:00p.m.; A commitment to AusPrEP is expected by May 31, 2010.
DEADLINE:  Application deadline –April 30, 2010 or until all seats are filled.

    2. Clearly explains the location of the Sun, Earth and Moon for each phase
    3. Clearly explains the direction of Rotation and Revolution for both the Earth and Moon
    4. Clearly explains the terms waxing and waning
    5. Rate the overall quality of the model, demonstration or video
    6. (Remember, you can earn extra credit for explaining both types of eclipses and/or both types of tides in your project)

Answers to PreAP project questions (DUE NEXT WEDNESDAY)

    • Note: Please fill out the Project Sign-up Form if you haven’t already done so!
    • How are we supposed to put an Eclipse on a video? You will either need to use shadows created by sunlight or a flashlight, or perhaps circles cut out of black construction paper to act as shadows
    • Can we use your room to record in? Yes you can, or you can use any other room (with permission) or better yet, record outside (no permission necessary for that!)
    • So we present this? Yes, you will need to present your project either by recording your presentation in a video or by presenting it ‘live’ in class
